CD Player repairs

Sony CDP-110 Unit inoperative with immediate chassis shutdown. Scope for eye pattern. None found. Replaced optical assembly KSS150A with KSS210A. Check eye pattern and E/F balance. Unit OK.

Sony CDP-333ESD Spindle motor and both(!) loading motors inoperative. No voltages found at motor terminals although control voltage found at tray mechanism control. I/C protectors PS201 and PS202 (both N10-S devices) on +10V and -10V lines found o/c. All voltage sources check OK. Both I/C protectors replaced - motors now OK, however no output from optical assembly. Lens cleaned. Focus coil actuator operates OK but no spin-up. Mark position of focus bias pot. and turn clockwise 1/8 turn. Disc now spins up - T.O.C read. Performance erratic though. Further bias adjust no good, so leave pot in +1/8 turn position. There are three other pots on the main board - F/E, T/E and one unmarked blue one which I suspect is for the PLL. It looked as if it might have been tampered with as it was set almost fully anti-clockwise. Returning it to its mid-point restored correct operation of the player.

Denon DCD-660 Tray opens then immediately closes again. Tray limit switches cleaned - tray operation OK. Discs not recognised - Lens filthy - cleaned - OK. Machine now functioning but will not play outer tracks on long discs (skipping). Sled rails and sled motor worm drive cleaned and re-lubed.( No flexible P.C. Cables on this machine). Machine now plays outer tracks but F/FWD is erratic (F/RWD OK). Tracking offset adjusted just a hair. Everything now OK.

Akai CD-M459 Unit blows fuses. Power supply unplugged from main board and powered up - no problem. On main board IC 12 a 7805 device found s/c between input and ground. Device removed from board and checked - OK. On the board IC 12 input and ground terminals checked with ohmmeter - s/c. Electrolytic capacitor C41 (3300mF 16V) across these terminals found s/c. C41 replaced - unit OK.

Philips CD610 II No tray or spindle motor operation. Power supplies OK. Very low voltages on motor driver IC. Two resistors in both positive and negative feeds (2.2R) gone very high. Resistors replaced. Unit OK.

Toshiba XR-9219 Unit having difficulty in locating tracks (considerable delay and noise) although T.O.C read fairly quickly. Focus appearing to lock quickly enough so laser not really suspect. T/E level adjusted clockwise very slightly. Unit now OK.
