Steve’s Hi-fi

Audio equipment repair notes.

Hi! and welcome. These pages are intended for those, who like myself, are routinely involved in the repair of hi-fi equipment, usually without a circuit diagram. They are not intended for people who are unfamiliar with working on mains powered equipment, and no responsibility can be accepted for accidents occasioned by unqualified persons. Please be certain that you understand the equipment that you intend to work on, and are fully conversant with the potential dangers involved.
There are numerous websites dealing with the repair of electronic equipment, (some of my favourites are listed elsewhere in these pages), but very few of them deal exclusively with hi-fi repairs. It can be very time consuming when looking for help with a hi-fi problem to have to wade through dozens of other articles on TVs, VCRs and so on. These notes are taken from my workshop log, and although they do not detail every single step of the repair procedure they may still, hopefully, shed some light on your particular difficulty. What I have done here is to divide the notes on the various different types of unit; amplifiers, CD players etc. into different sections to hopefully make your hunt for answers a little easier.
